We Build for the Shift-Based Workforce — and This One’s for Them

We’ve just been named Best Midsize Business-Focused Solution in the 2025 HR Tech Awards, and we’re honestly pretty proud.

Not because we set out to win awards — but because this one reflects the kind of work we care most about: solving the real-world challenges of managing hourly teams.

This award specifically recognizes solutions designed for midsize businesses in HR and workforce tech. That matters to us. Because for the past few years, we’ve been heads-down building Deputy to do exactly that — support growing businesses with shift-based teams through better scheduling, smarter compliance, easier onboarding, and more visibility across the board.

And it’s working.

Why it matters

Most workforce tools weren’t built for hourly work. They were designed around a desk — stable hours, single locations, predictable schedules. But that’s not how the world works when your team is running a cafe, caring for patients, stocking shelves, or cleaning hotel rooms.

These businesses deal with dynamic schedules, changing availability, labor laws that vary by state or country, and employees who clock in from different places every day. And they’re doing it all with limited resources.

That’s who Deputy is built for.

We’ve always believed hourly work deserves purpose-built software — not second-tier support. We’re not retrofitting HR tools for shift work. We’re building products specifically to make it easier.

What stood out

According to the Lighthouse Research & Advisory team, our entry stood out for more than product features — it stood out for outcomes. They highlighted things like:

  • Faster onboarding and implementation

  • Real improvements in shift satisfaction and retention

  • Strong ROI — especially around labor cost control and admin reduction

  • Visibility and reporting that helps businesses make better day-to-day decisions

The judges specifically called out how we supported these outcomes with real data — not just marketing claims.

That’s a huge compliment. Because one of our internal mantras is: “If it doesn’t make life easier for our customers, it’s not worth building.”

And our customers are doing amazing things

Whether it’s Dutch Bros making sure they can schedule thousands of baristas efficiently, or LaserAway staying compliant across US states, or Trek Bikes creating a better experience for retail teams — our customers are the ones making the impact.

This award is as much theirs as it is ours. They’ve helped shape the product with their feedback. They’ve stretched the platform in ways we never imagined. And they’ve helped us see what’s possible.

Where we’re headed

While this award is a great moment, we’re more excited about what’s ahead.

We’ve got more coming this year: deeper analytics, smarter compliance support, and tools that better connect payroll and scheduling for teams who need simplicity at scale.

Everything we build will continue to follow the same principle: give shift-based businesses the tools they actually need to run well — without making it complicated.

A final note

Awards are nice. But the real reward is seeing what our customers are doing with Deputy — managing better, moving faster, and giving their teams more clarity and control over their work.

So to our customers: thank you for trusting us. You’re the reason we keep building. And we’re excited for what’s next.

Let’s keep improving the world of work — one shift at a time.
